Dubia Roach Care
Name: Dubia Roach, but sometimes referred to as the Argentine Roach, the Orange Spotted Roach or the Guyana Spotted Roach.
Scientific Name: Blaptica dubia
Lifespan
9-10 months for males, but females live longer, usually reaching 18 – 24 months.
Housing
Dubia Roaches can be kept in any ventilated container. This can include an aquarium or a plastic tub with screen cover. Although they do not climb, it's recommended that enclosures be covered to keep them in and other things out. Roaches do best without a substrate, but they do need places to hide and surface area to stand on. This is best accomplished by using stacked egg cartons in their enclosure.
Heating
Dubia Roaches can tolerate temperatures as low as 68 degrees; average temperature should be in the 80’s. Heat can be provided with a heat pad or place a heat lamp above their home to keep them warm.
Food
Dubia Roaches are scavengers by nature, so will eat almost anything, but as you are going to be feeding them to your reptiles it is wise to feed them foods that boost their nutritional value. A food made specificaly for bugs is your best option. If that isnt availabe you can take dry foods like oats, bran and flaked fish foods. Also the addition of plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits offered regularly would give the feeder roaches a more balanced diet. There is no need to add water to the container, as they should be able to get an adequate water source from their fruits and veggies. As with any creature food and water need to be offered daily and remember to remove old foods regularly to prevent mold from growing in their home, this can be fatal to your roaches.
